Scott Wimmer NASCAR Nationwide Series Advance:
Daytona International Speedway

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

SIDE-BY-SIDE – The NASCAR Nationwide Series will be adopting the shootout-style double-file restarts at this weekend’s race at Daytona International Speedway. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series premiered the double-file restart three weeks ago at Pocono Raceway.

COME SAY HI – Driver Scott Wimmer will be participating in this weekend’s Daytona International Speedway autograph session. The session will take place on Friday, July 3rd from 5:30-6:30 PM ET at the Sprint FANZONE in the DIS infield.

CHASSIS INFORMATION – Key Motorsports will be utilizing chassis #050 at this weekend's race at Daytona International Speedway. #050 is the same chassis the team brought to Daytona for the 2009 season-opener, as well as to Talladega Superspeedway earlier this year. The body has since been completely rebuilt in anticipation of this weekend’s superspeedway race.

Scott Wimmer Finishes 17th at Loudon, Key Motorsports
Makes Jump in Points

Scott Wimmer returned to the No. 40 StopRepairBills.com Chevrolet to give Key Motorsports another solid weekend both on track and in the points. Despite limited practice time, Wimmer qualified and finished in the top-20, bumping the team up two positions in the NNS owner point standings.

It was a difficult start to the weekend when Key Motorsports unloaded the No. 40 StopRepairBills.com Chevy at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. After completing only three laps in the first practice of the weekend, the team experienced a clutch failure, requiring the crew to work fervently to repair the car while missing valuable track time.

After missing the remainder of practice to fix the broken clutch, a problem with the ignition box kept the crew working busily until final practice began. Anxious to get on the track, Wimmer was able to make only five laps before rain washed out the final session. Despite the limited track time, Wimmer pulled off a qualifying lap of 30.178 seconds, good enough for 20th on the starting grid.

After taking the green flag Wimmer began to pick off his competitors, despite being unable to hone in on setup during practice. After only 20 laps Wimmer had piloted the No. 40 StopRepairBills.com Chevrolet into 15th, setting his sights on the top-10, but the car’s setup began to work against him as the laps passed.

The field got the first caution of the day when Paul Menard lost his engine on lap 51. Coming into the pits 17th, Wimmer maintained his position after a full-service stop including adjustments. When green flag racing resumed, the No. 40 was tight in traffic, but once again Wimmer fought his way into the top-15, holding onto his spot until the race reached the halfway mark.

When the caution flag flew for the second time, the team once again adjusted on the StopRepairBills.com Impala, but Wimmer battled the same tight condition when he returned to the track and he slipped back to 18th.

Debris brought out the third and final caution of the race on lap 157, and the Key Motorsports crew gained a spot in the pits with an ultra-fast stop. Wimmer fought hard to pick up the 16th position when racing resumed, but the car’s tight condition in traffic made it difficult to advance through the congestion. Wimmer ultimately lost the position, hanging onto 17th until the drop of the checkers.

Scott Wimmer’s 17th place finish gave Key Motorsports another great points weekend, bumping Curtis Key’s No. 40 up to 24th in the owner standings, 120 points ahead of 30th.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will celebrate 4th of July weekend by racing under the lights at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, July 3rd.
