CHAFFIN FINISHES 23rd AT KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY
MOORESVILLE, North Carolina (July 21, 2008) – An unfortunate caution diminished the hopes of a great run for Chad Chaffin and the #40 Westerman Companies Chevrolet in the Built Ford Tough 225 at Kentucky Speedway.
Taking a pit strategy gamble, Chaffin was poised to finish off the weekend with a great showing until the sixth caution of the race was thrown. This resulted in a 23rd finish for the #40 Westerman Companies Chevrolet, two laps down.
The 23rd place finish dropped Key Motorsports’ owner and driver standings one position each to 30th and 24th respectively.
This weekend, also serving as a birthday weekend for Chaffin, had the makings of another great showing for Chaffin and Key Motorsports, Inc., but the late race misfortunes dampened the ending.
“It was a disappointing finish, but the overall weekend was good,” stated Chaffin. “The pit strategy is always based on the flow of the race. Although it didn’t work in our favor, we were just sticking to our game plan. The caution was just out of our control.”
“The truck was a little over adjusted at the beginning of the race, but was coming in as the race went on. We had a competitive truck this weekend, and were looking at a good top fifteen run. The caution just kind of bit us.”
Crew Chief Lance Hooper agreed stating that “Overall, it was a great showing for us. We were running competitively all night, and knew we had great equipment for a good showing. You just can not control things such as cautions.”
The team will continue their great run with Westerman Companies in this week’s Power Stroke Diesel 200 at O’Reilly Raceway Park.
