WESTERMAN COMPANIES RENEWS WITH KEY MOTORSPORTS
FOR AT LEAST SIX 2008 CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES RACES
MOORESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA (February 6, 2008) – The Westerman Companies, which made its debut on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series circuit last season with Key Motorsports, has announced a renewal of that partnership for the soon-to-begin 2008 campaign.
The Bremen, Ohio-based manufacturer predominantly of storage and transportation containers in the oil, gas and nuclear industries will sponsor the #40 Key Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado for at least six races.
The hunter green and white Westerman Companies Chevrolet Silverado will do battle in the NCTS events scheduled for Mansfield Motorsports Park in Mansfield, Ohio on May 24, Michigan International Speedway on June 14, Kentucky Speedway on July 12, Gateway International Raceway outside of St. Louis on September 6, the
Martinsville Speedway in Virginia on October 18 and the in the season finale in Homestead, FL on November 14.
“I am really looking forward to our second season of partnership with the Key Motorsports #40 team,” said Westerman Companies President and CEO Terry McGhee.
“Westerman’s affiliation with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has created a tremendous amount of excitement with our current customers, employees and other business relations and we hope to expand that enthusiasm in 2008,” McGhee added.
The Westerman Companies first came onto the NASCAR scene on the Key Motorsports machine at Kentucky last season when rookie driver Brandon Miller drove to a respectable 19th place finish. It was the first of four races in which the company committed sponsorship to the #40 in 2007.
As a result of the program gaining in popularity with company officials, employees and customers, Westerman added two more races onto the schedule later in the year, and with veteran Chad Chaffin behind the wheel helped spark the #40 to its best NCTS finish ever with a 7th at Martinsville.
“Our team worked especially hard in making sure that we did everything that the Westerman Companies expected of us, and that big finish at Martinsville was just the best experience for everyone connected with our program,” said team owner Curtis W. Key, Sr.
“We greatly appreciated the support that we received from Terry (McGhee) and his people last season, and we’re thrilled that they have seen fit to return in 2008 for at least six more races. We aim to perform even better for them this coming year and to make the Westerman Companies racing program even stronger,”
Key added.
Chaffin is again Key’s driver choice to start the 2008 race season and is expected to also be retained as the driver of the #40 in every race in which the Westerman Companies will serve as the primary sponsor.
“Chad did a great job for us at the end of last season, and the Westerman folks really liked his performance both on and off the race track. He’ll be their driver again this year,” Key stated.
McGhee did indicate that the door is open for his company to add even more races to the current schedule of sponsored events with Key Motorsports much like it did in 2007.
The 2008 NCTS campaign gets underway on February 15 with the running of the Chevy Silverado 250 at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida. The #40 Key Motorsports Chevrolet is guaranteed a starting berth in that race as a result of its top 30 standing in NCTS owner points 2007.
