WESTERMAN COMPANIES RETURNS FOR ONE MORE TRUCK SERIES RACE;
TO SPONSOR #40 CHEVROLET AND COMMEMMORATE CHAFFIN’S 100TH START
FORT WORTH, TEXAS (October 31, 2007) – The Westerman Companies, sponsor of the #40 Key Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado in five previous NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races during the 2008 season, will return for one more race to help commemorate driver Chad Chaffin’s 100th career start in the Series.
The Westerman Companies green and white colors and logos will adorn the #40 Key Motorsports entry in Friday night’s Silverado 350K race at the Texas Motor Speedway here. It is the 23rd race on the 25-race NCTS schedule and is one that Chaffin hopes will get his Key Motorsports team back on track.
“I raced to a seventh place finish in my first race for the Westerman folks in Martinsville a few weeks ago, so maybe their decision to return for the Texas race will turn out to be a good luck omen for me and the team,” Chaffin said.
The Westerman Companies, a family-owned business that includes the manufacturing of containers for transit and storage in the oil, gas and nuclear industries, is based in Bremen, OH and has chosen Key Motorsports as its racing partner in its first-ever competition in NASCAR. Rookie Brandon Miller drove the Westerman Companies Chevy in the first
four races this season and posted three top 25 efforts topped by a 19th in Kentucky.
Chaffin crashed out of last Saturday’s race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway early and finished 36th and last. He is hoping to turn things around this week to help restore the momentum that he and the Key Motorsports team had built over a 3-race span just prior to the Atlanta event.
“We really had things going our way before Atlanta with two top tens and a 16th place finish in Las Vegas, so getting everyone back on their game is important as we close the 2007 season,” the 39-year-old Chaffin said.
Chaffin ran his very first NCTS race in 2000 with a third place finish as the old Nashville Fairgrounds Raceway in his native Tennessee. Over the next 98 races, Chaffin won two races and finished in the top ten in driver points twice (2003 and 2004). He hopes to build on that this weekend in Texas.
